A licensed social worker (LSW) is a mental health provider who holds a master’s or doctoral degree in social work and who has met all requirements set forth by the state licensure board to provide quality mental health care under supervision.

A Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, Level 1 (CCTP-I) has met all the training requirements in order to become specialized in providing advanced treatment related to trauma, including being able to help with post-traumatic triggers; harmful coping strategies; and overwhelming emotions, such as shame, anger, anxiety, fear, and depression.

Sylvia Campbell (pronouns: she/her) is a dedicated licensed social worker who works with adults, adolescents, children, and couples. Her specialty areas include: emotional regulation, anger management, grief counseling, and trauma-informed therapy. She is strongly committed to providing services using evidence-based treatment approaches.

Sylvia received her bachelor’s degree in human development and family studies from Penn State University. She earned her master’s degree in social work from Youngstown State University. Her specialized coursework focused on psychosocial development theory. She is currently enrolled at the National University for her doctoral degree in psychology. Sylvia is passionate about decreasing the stigma associated with mental health illness in her clinical work by normalizing mental health services.

Before becoming a mental health therapist, Sylvia worked as a case manager for adults within their community and children in foster care, giving her insight into crisis intervention using Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Her experience working as a therapist for adolescent girls in residential treatment gave her an understanding of problem-solving and conflict resolution.

While working in the county jail as a therapist, she used her case management skills to assist clients transition back to society to reduce recidivism. As a trauma-informed therapist, she learned if you treat all clients as though they suffer from trauma, then you reduce the risk of traumatizing those who do not and reduce harm for those who do.

Sylvia uses rapport-building, empathy, and a strength-based approach to meeting clients where they are. Psychoeducation is the approach she prefers to empower clients with knowledge of their diagnoses and symptoms. Sylvia uses Motivational Interviewing once clients show signs of stability and they are ready to discuss making changes.

She believes that the mental health profession should be collaborative and never competitive. By supporting one another, Sylvia has experienced that we can build everyone up. Ultimately, she prioritizes clients’ beliefs in their own resiliency and ability to achieve their goals for wellness.

Her strengths include: being culturally diverse, emotionally healthy, kind, and patient. She can also read the room to avoid interrupting the flow of the atmosphere.
