
A licensed professional counselor (LPC) is a mental health provider who holds a master’s or doctoral degree in counseling and who has met all requirements set forth by the state licensure board to provide quality mental health care.
The second “C” (LPC“C”) denotes advanced clinical experience and knowledge as required by the state licensure board that allows for independent practice (meaning, without the need for supervision).
The “S” (LPCC-“S”) denotes advanced experience and knowledge in clinical supervision as required by the state licensure board that allows for supervision of LPCs and counselors-in-training.
Dr. Lynn Edwards (pronouns: she/her) is a licensed professional clinical counselor-supervisor who has over 15 years of experience in the field. Dr. Edwards works with adults and specializes in the areas of depression, anxiety, gender issues, women’s issues, gerontology, grief and loss and issues related to life stressors. She provides a safe and healing environment and utilizes top therapeutic interventions as well as providing exercises and strategies for coping with daily life.
Dr. Edwards received her PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, a master’s degree in community counseling, and a bachelor of science degree in psychology. She has been trained in multicultural counseling, has a background in urban education, and is published in the specialty area of hypnosis.
Dr. Edwards has worked in private practice, school settings for at-risk youth, community-based mental health centers, and hospitals for both adults and teens. She also has worked in nursing homes and group homes. Reflecting her passion for education, she has hosted workshops for adults with developmental disabilities to promote their wellness.
Dr. Edwards has served as Liasson to Ethnic Minority Affairs, Division 30 of the American Psychological Association and as an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community (with a focus on supporting transgender individuals) with a Milwaukee based organization; F.O.R.G.E. In addition, she has taught psychology courses as adjunct professor and has done speaking engagements on mental health to high school and college level students.
Dr. Edwards’s focus in therapy is to provide a safe, healing and productive environment and she is committed to helping individuals increase their sense of well-being while improving their relationships at work, school and home.
Her strengths include: being a sensitive, caring listener and advocate.
Dr. Edwards’s supervision training includes advanced doctoral coursework in supervision theory and practice. In addition, she has been supervised by numerous counseling psychology experts and participates in ongoing annual training. She has experience supervising counselors in community mental health and in the university setting.
Dr. Edwards’s approach to supervision is informed by psychodynamic and person-centered theory and multiculturalism. She supervises with a deep respect for the rights, safety and care of others as well as a commitment to ensuring the intellectual, emotional and professional support for the counselor.
