
A licensed professional counselor (LPC) is a mental health provider who holds a master’s or doctoral degree in counseling and who has met all requirements set forth by the state licensure board to provide quality mental health care.
Daytona Hedrick (pronouns: she/her) is a licensed professional counselor who works with adolescents, adults, and couples. Her specialty interests include: girls’ and women’s issues, trauma, grief, anxiety, and exploring blended family dynamics. She utilizes treatment approaches that emphasize the importance of living authentically in a way that empowers clients to live a fulfilling life.
Daytona earned her master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling at Walsh University and completed her bachelor’s degree at Kent State University in biology and . She uses her background and love of science to advocate for evidence-based practices in the clinical setting. Daytona’s love of science, research, and reading helps her utilize techniques that are tailored to each client and up-to-date.
Prior to working for Wellness Grove, Daytona worked in a variety of settings that included industrial laboratory work, park services, and education. After discovering her love for building connections with others and working with teens struggling in a traditional school setting, she decided to make a career change that focused on helping others.
Outside of the counseling profession, Daytona worked for many years as a research assistant where she co-published manuscripts in scientific journals, as well as a book chapter, on topics related to ecological entomology (the study of insects and other invertebrates in their environment). Daytona also volunteered during the Covid-19 pandemic as a crisis text line volunteer which ultimately shaped her career goals in becoming a licensed professional counselor.
Daytona’s approach to counseling is humanistic because she believes in helping guide clients to find their full potential and live authentically. She also has a special interest in existential approaches that focus on embracing meaning and purpose in everyday life. Daytona believes that each client has a lived truth and is unique – no two individuals are the same. She utilizes a holistic framework that encompasses the whole client and moves them toward self-actualization.
Her strengths include: compassion, meeting clients where they are, and promoting empowerment.
